I'd be interested on your views about the nature of QRM I get: You can listen to them on my Perseus, e.g. on 18905 kHz in AM, 6 kHz BW.
I have recently discovered these strange signals on various frequency ranges between approx 16-24 MHz. HAM bands are clear, but BC bands are concerned.
The QRM is continuous and consists of many "carriers" that seem to be digitally modulated.
I can eliminate the QRM in one range by carefully turning the ALA1530, but a null in one range is not a null on other frequencies, perhaps there is more than one source!
Today I went out in the neighbourhood with the Tecsun PL-380, and found two "hotspots". In front of one of the houses, the display showed 28 dbµ, for what it is worth.
One of them is 100 m from my antenna, the other a bit closer.
Inhouse powerline equipment is continuously on sale in local discounters, I simply can't afford to buy all of them, though ;-)
I consider dropping a message in the mailboxes of these houses and offer help to eliminate the devices. The regulator, BNetzA, can also be called.

Homeplug PLC is the worst nightmare for HF DX.
You can expect much more of these devices in the future raising our general noisefloor.
It is the reason why client-server for me was the ony solution to escape from this typical 24hrs a day QRM.
------
The Homeplug Powerline Alliance is doing its utmost to alleviate EMC regulations for their technology, which has still never met EMC EN55022 (2006) norms any other manufacturer has to comply to. Most EMC tests
performed in the UK even omitted the mains emmission test at request of the manufacturer.
-----
I had strong noise problems from a neighbour nextdoor using
a Netgear XAV10x inhouse powerline system. I managed to get
rid of this issue by sponsoring them a wireless LAN access
point and a handful of wireless LAN USB-clients.
-----
Homeplug breaches regulations and seems to be allowed by regulators for whatever economic free-market mantra reasons.
I expect professional users of HF will take the topic more seriously than politicians.
Us radio-nerds are the first to "smell a fire" of outrageous EMC emissions.
We did that on switched PSU, plasmas, etc. The fact that PLC pops up so negatively in our hobby is a strong sign something is indeed getting smelly.
Professional HF users will be affected later as they operate mostly outside densely populated areas.
Better to take the problem serious sooner than that, noisefloor is rising.

The Homeplug Powerline Alliance is prospecting a PLC unit in every household apparatus (tv's,fridges, laundrymachines, vacuumcleaners, anything) because Smart Grid is hyped as the holy grail of green energy. This is
going to a deployment of billions of PLC units, thus a multimultibillion business. There is a wonderful brochure, they call it "Homeplug Green PHY", it's intended to become a world standard and it
uses.....ofcourse....2-30MHz.

I guess they have quite some legal (and other) powers organised to get PLC through legislation in any possible way. HPA already seems to have enough lobbying power to initiate a dedicated tailored standard by which
they can bypass EMC regulations.
One of the most wonderful inventions of mankind to use natural resources for long distance communications is traded for "progress".
